Eberswalde Library. Herzog & de Meuron

The Eberswalde Library has been compared to a Warhol painting. Designed in collaboration with artist Thomas Ruff, it carries the idea of a pictorial facade further than any other project by Herzog & de Meuron. Combining elements that have long been deemed incompatible - minimalism and ornament, purity and baroque fullness, concrete box and pictorial facade, space and surface - the building challenges the conventions of modernism.
