In this essay Hans Ibelings identifies and examines a new tendency towards abstract, neutral architecture, which in many ways can be seen as the last word in the modern architecture of the post-war International Style. Observable in work by OMA, Jean Nouvel, Dominique Perrault, Herzog & De Meuron and Toyo Ito, among others, this development can be related to one of the dominant forces of the present time: the globalization taking place in almost every aspect of life.
